Chestnut Oak (Quercus montana)
Chestnut oak is a native decidious tree within the white oak family. It is native to eastern and central USA. It can grow to a height of 50'-70' and can be found growing in poor, dry and rocky soils, but does best in well drained loams. Chestnut oak is drought tolerant once it has become established enough. This tree is perfect as shade tree in parks or large yards.
Light Requirement: Full sun 6 or more hours of direct sunlight a day.
Soil: clay, loam, sand, shallow/rocky. Good drainage, moist, or occassionally dry.
